The national institute of occupational safety and health in the USA studied 2983 ingredients found in the household. They found that 884 were highly toxic, 314 cause biological mutations, 218 caused reproductive problems and 146 were carcinogenic. Today these products are still allowed to be sold. They are still allowed in our homes. Isn't that crazy to think about!! These toxins can be found in our household cleaners, makeup, candles, shampoo, perfume, skincare, air fresheners, supplements, lotion, packaged food, bug spray, cleaning products, laundry detergent, sunscreen, pain relief... The list goes on and on. Here is a very short list of the toxins I avoid that are still allowed to be on the shelves:
Artificial or Synthetic Fragrance
It is up to us to decide what type of environment we live in. We get to decide what we allow into our homes. This means you have the option to say no to harmful toxins. With everything going on right now in the world - people are spending so much time in their homes and cleaning in their homes. These toxins are now more than ever being used almost daily. This is affecting our bodies, our families and our animals. Our emotions, our sleep patterns, our appetite, our mindset, our energy levels, our immune system... So many things! When I started to dive in - I learned about Green Washing. This means that companies use marketing to claim that the products or services are environmentally friendly. Let's use potato chips as an example. If you see two different brands next to each other - one with a bright red bag and one with a picture of a farm on the bag. Your mind assumes that the bag with the farm on it is the better product for your body. Then when you read the ingredients - you can see that there most likely isn't a difference in the product, just packaging. Here are some ways to avoid Green Washing!
Read the Ingredients - If it is only showing you "Active Ingredients" then there is most likely something to hide
Research the company
Don't trust the slogan "All Natural"
Look for proof of Green Practices: U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) organic certification or Non-GMO Project Verified
These days - it takes WORK to know what products are safe to use. This is why when I find a company I like - I stick with it! Let's get back to cleaning products! Think about how many people put on gloves or have to air out their homes after cleaning. This is from all the toxins in our cleaning products. I knew I didn't want to do this anymore. I didn't want to get a headache each time I cleaned, or 2 days after cleaning have my emotional roller coaster from all the endocrine distributors. So I stopped! I threw out all the trash cleaning products and have replaced them with Thieves Household Cleaner. Thieves Household Cleaner is safe for me to use on everything! I don't have to worry about toxins on my floors getting into my body just from me walking around with bare feet in my home. It is also safe for my animals and any kids that come over. On top of that this cleaner is made from a blend of essential oils! In France during the plague, thieves would sneak into graveyards to rob from the dead and dying. Legend says they protected themselves by creating a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals. This covered the smell and kept their immune systems healthy! Today's Thieves blend is a combination of Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Lemon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary. Because we know how powerful this blend is - there are a ton of different products that Thieves Blend is the base for! I have been using my Thieves blend is inspired by those tales of old for about 6 years now. This allows me to have a peace of mine that I am supporting my immune system throughout my day while also cleaning. I use Thieves toothpaste and mouthwash first thing every morning. Thieves laundry detergent on all my clothes. Thieves is in my diffuser as I’m typing this. Thieves roll-on stays in my car next to my Thieves Hand Sanitizer. I love my Thieves throat lozenges and cough drops they are always around me. The handsoap in my bathroom is Thieves Soap. My household surface cleaner is even Thieves based. It is actually the bomb.com - Thieves Household Cleaner comes super concentrated - like a majority of the YL products are. Whenever I go to dilute the concentrate - I make sure to put it in a glass container. This way the essential oils don't break down any of the plastic containers.
Here are some of my favorite dilution ratios!
All-purpose Cleaner - 1 cap Thieves Household Cleaner and 1 qt water
Floor Cleaner - 1 cap Thieves Household Cleaner and 6 cups water
Fruit and Veggies Cleaner - 1 cap Thieves Household Cleaner and 3 cups water
Heavy Degreasing Cleaner - 1 cap Thieves Household Cleaner and 3 cups water
Laundry Booster - 1 cap Thieves Household Cleaner per load
Wall Cleaner - 1 cap Thieves Household Cleaner and 2 cups water
Window and Glass Cleaner - 1/4 Teaspoon Thieves Household Cleaner and 1 qt water
